Beginning counselling can sometimes feel unfamiliar or daunting. Knowing a little more about the practicalities can often help you feel more comfortable about taking the first step.
I offer counselling from my private practice in Melksham, Wiltshire, in a calm and confidential setting. I provide both daytime and evening appointments during the week. I can also offer Saturdays if required.
This session provides an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what has brought you to counselling, and explore what you hope to gain from the process.
You are also welcome to ask any questions you may have and to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. At the end of the session, there is no obligation to continue, and we can decide together whether we feel we could work well therapeutically.
If I feel that I may not be the most appropriate counsellor for your needs, I work closely with colleagues in and around Wiltshire and can discuss alternative referrals where appropriate.
Individual counselling sessions last for 50 minutes and couples sessions last for 80 minutes. Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly.
I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on your individual needs, circumstances, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. During our initial sessions, we can discuss what may feel most appropriate for you.
To help establish consistency and build the therapeutic relationship, I usually suggest beginning with an initial commitment of eight to twelve sessions. As we approach this point, we can review how things are progressing and discuss whether you would like to continue.
Regular reviews are also built into the counselling process to ensure that the work continues to meet your needs.
Fees
Payment is required weekly in advance and can be made by cash or bank transfer.
The ending of counselling is an important part of the therapeutic process and will be approached thoughtfully and collaboratively.
When the time feels right to end counselling, we can reflect on the work we have done together and discuss any ongoing support or additional help that may be beneficial. Where appropriate, I am also happy to discuss referrals to other services or forms of therapy.
